The Creative Endeavour
Instrumental causality is a philosophical term to explain the relationship between idea, or, inspiration, and its practical application, or, creation. It has do with the process and the stuff that is the 'in-between' of the concept and its actualization. Simply said, it is the bringing of something to life. As a contemplative, as an artist, a designer, as one who actually fabricates and creates the elements that compose our sense of the sacred, I bring my experience and expertise into what I do, while making every attempt to neutralize my own individuality. I mean that my creative voice must speak in alignment with and for the spiritual aspirations of the people of God, and to some degree, it must speak for God and of how we might understand Him. I am like a conduit allowing expression, both human and divine, to move through me and to find its appropriate place in the creation of sacred space.
